Exclusive Interview: Apocalypse [2026]

10/08/2026 by JFA

Exclusive interview with GU Masters on Pythias Deckbox for Apocalypse 2026 Interview.

Apocalypse is, without a doubt, one of the most respected (and beloved) members of the Gods Unchained community.. And what's more, one of the ones that has contributed the most to making Gods Unchained offer more and more possibilities to its players.

I'm JFA, promoter of GU Masters, and I recommend that you don't miss this interview. Apocalypse has been a community moderator (Watcher), it is a software engineer by profession who has worked as a contractor external for Immutable and, moreover, has dedicated infinite hours to building real tools for the ecosystem.

Next, the full video from the interview:

Additionally, I'll leave you a summary here with key moments and reflections that this conversation left us with.

Interview with Apocalypse: vision, development, and the future of Gods Unchained

How did Apocalypse get into this game and what does he expect in the medium term regarding its evolution?

From traditional TCGs to arriving at GU

Apocalypse has been over 20 years in the world of video games and card collectingHe delved into the universe of collectible card games thanks to Pokémon almost three decades ago and from there made the competitive leap to Magic: The Gathering, in which he was involved for ten years.

Its arrival at Gods Unchained occurred in mid-2021. In the midst of the NFT boom, he and a group of friends were looking for a proposal that combined video games and real digital ownership. The presence of Chris Clay (ex-MTG Arena) in the project was a decisive factor in his decision to bet on Gods Unchained and, of his group of friends, he is the only one who remains at the forefront today.

Community Moderation (Watcher)

After years on Discord, Apocalypse highlights that the GU community has an infinitely superior level of passion compared to other video games. Regarding his role as a moderator (Watcher), acknowledges that the big challenge is finding the balance between letting people express themselves and debate without restrictions about the game's direction, and putting the brakes on so that no one loses their temper.

Obstacles to mass adoption?

When asked about the main challenges facing Gods Unchained, he identified three pillars:

  • Onboarding: Web3 adds a notable layer of complexity that alienates players who aren't too familiar with the many quirks of the crypto world. For someone to overcome that barrier, the game needs to be superior to traditional (Web2) alternatives.
  • The term "NFT" and the narrative: for Apocalypse, the word NFT has become "radioactive" for gamers traditional ones. He maintains that the first successful massive web3 game will not mention NFTs even once, but will simply offer its users the benefits of digital ownership while hiding the underlying technology.
  • Technical debt (Tech Debt): the bugs in the launcher and in the official game client create a frustrating first impression for new (and veteran) users, so finding solutions for this must be a priority for the Gods Unchained team.

Additionally, he reflected on the Daily Play & Earn (DPE). While he understands its utility in the market, he believes it contributes to alienating the player: the stress of not losing financial rewards distances many players from the fun of a video game, misaligning community incentives.

Community Projects

We couldn't overlook the various projects he has developed for the Gods Unchained player community.

Fast Forge: The initial spark

His first community tool was Fast Forge, conceived to solve the demanding card forging experience. This project served not only as a card of introduction to the Immutable team (something that later allowed him to become contractor for the company), but also as a technical basis for larger-scale projects.

Pythia’s Deckbox: card rentals

After LootRush's card rental service ceased, Apocalypse stepped up by launching Pythia's Deckbox. With record-breaking development (prototype in one day and functional closed beta in two weeks), the platform was born to cover players' need to rent cards.

Unlike other initiatives, Pythia's Deckbox incorporates explicit safeguards to protect the game economy:

  • Respect the rule of cooldown 24-hour of the assets (cards).
  • Avoid fraudulent behavior of renting a single deck to share among different accounts without respecting the aforementioned cooldown rule. Goodbye, multicoin (at least with rented cards).
  • Reduces the factor Pay-to-Win to almost zero, allowing any player to try competitive decks or play tournaments for a minimal fraction of their cost.

Delphi: the launcher unofficial that aims to revolutionize Gods Unchained

The highlight of the chat was Delphi, a launcher independent that aims to incorporating everything players have been asking for years.

If you haven't had a chance to see it, enjoy the presentation trailer. It's worth it:

Take a look at his potential:

  • Replays native and, hopefully soon, spectator mode: it is now possible to review previous matches from the launcher and save them locally. This functionality will be the basis for the development of the spectator mode, which is key for live tournament broadcasting.
  • Integrated modules: features coming soon… native tournaments, direct rental management through Pythia’s Deckbox without leaving the app, smooth card pack opening, and Forge experience improvements.
  • Gamification and social features: Something Apocalypse wants to enhance is the sense of progress. One of his ideas is to create a system of rewards and achievements (badges for playing a certain card X times, a dominion, etc.), as well as adding a friends list with integrated chat, an event calendar, and a wall for content creators.
  • "Pack Points" Concept: inspired by titles like Pokémon TCG Pocket, seeks to offer new players short, medium, and long-term goals, so that they acquire cards as they open packs and facilitating guided progression.

Delphi is currently in closed beta, progressively sending invitations to registered users. If you want Find out more about this launcher, you just need to visit the corresponding section of the website of Pythia’s Deckbox: Delphi.

Closing and quick questions

In the most relaxed block, he left us some personal details: burrito fan, cheetah lover, admirer of the Batman animated series and Kendrick Lamar's music. Looking three years ahead, he is confident that Gods Unchained will continue to grow, with his own contributions as a catalyst thanks to Delphi's tools.

What do you think of the features coming to Delphi?

This conversation with Apocalypse once again reinforces an idea we already know: the Gods Unchained community is full of talent (and passion). Features like native match replays or tournament integration within the client itself are destined to mark a before and after in how we enjoy this pioneering game.
