I am JFA of GU Masters and on this occasion we have some very special guests to talk about the most popular marketplace for Gods Unchained fans : TokenTrove .
TokenTrove needs no introduction, but you've probably wondered about its origin, challenges and future potential . This is your best chance to get the most complete information about all this, from David.
Without further ado, let's dive into the interview .
Q.- TokenTrove was founded by twin brothers David and Steven. Please tell us a little about your background... who are you, where are you, how do you make a living?
A.- We are both software developers located in the United States. We've both been software developers for the past 10 years and make a living by dedicating ourselves full-time to TokenTrove and GUDecks . We have both been exclusively dedicated to these projects for about three years.
Q.- How did your adventure in Gods Unchained begin? Did you have any experience in trading card games (TCG) or Play and Earn?
A.- I played a few trading card games during my teenage years (Young Jedi, DBZ CCG) and I've also spent hours playing Hearthstone like many Gods Unchained players. The Play and Earn concept didn't really exist when I started playing GU!
Q.- Most Gods Unchained players know this, but just in case there is anyone who doesn't, let me point out that you are the masterminds behind GUDecks. Why did you decide to launch this website? Was it in any way a step prior to the launch of TokenTrove?
A.- I've been in the crypto space for a long time and I remember how excited everyone was when CryptoKitties became fashionable. When Gods Unchained was released, Steven and I were excited because it was going to be one of the first games on a blockchain where developers seemed to understand how to scale. We built GUDecks for fun (back then it was just a deck builder) as a side project months before the game could actually be played. For those who have been around long enough, GUDecks was the original place to trade GU raffle tickets and tournament passes. After writing a small marketplace implementation for these, we decided to make a full marketplace for Ethereum NFTs and create a separate site.
Q.- TokenTrove is the most popular marketplace for Gods Unchained players, why? What is the value proposition of TokenTrove?
A.- What makes TokenTrove so different from other NFT marketplaces is that we customize each collection specifically for the community playing that game. Our team plays, buys, and sells almost every NFT we support, so many times we understand what the community is looking for before they even tell us. We've also focused (for the most part) on gaming and utility NFTs, and typically these collections have to be stacked, seen on a map, or something else unique. Displaying each NFT as if it were a PFP (as most other marketplaces do) is not very intuitive. We also provide fast and personalized support to our users, you don't have to talk to moderators or a help desk that doesn't know what they're doing, you can talk to the real developers!
Q.- TokenTrove has a referral program (in fact GU Masters joined this program in May 2022), are you satisfied with its performance so far? I think it's a smart solution to strengthen TokenTrove's leadership position.
A.- Yes, we've had a lot of streamers and websites (especially in the Gods Unchained community) interested in this. It's a win/win for our users, who can earn some money while also raising awareness of TokenTrove. We have made it very easy for individual users to share the NFTs listed by anyone and thus be able to participate in the success we may have.
Q.- What are your main challenges right now? And in the long term?
A.- Our main challenge right now is to get new users to try TokenTrove. Most people who try TokenTrove once tend to use it as their favorite marketplace, so it's important to raise awareness that there's a better option than most users currently use.
Q.- Let's talk a little about the future... where do you see Gods Unchained in 3 years? What are some of your future plans?
A.- If we didn't firmly believe in Gods Unchained, we wouldn't continue to support it as strongly as we do (with GUDecks and TokenTrove). We still think it's a team with an accurate vision of what needs to be done to create a successful game in this space (although we think it's all moving too slowly 😀). Once the game is available on mobile, has a fun "sealed" mode, and has card evolutions, we believe the user base will grow rapidly. The only thing that could derail this is for another large card game to come into the blockchain space, but it would be nearly impossible for an existing non-blockchain card game to implement evolutions or other card burning mechanics correctly without starting from scratch, in my opinion.
Q.- What unexpected things has Gods Unchained brought to your life?
A.- Gods Unchained, honestly, has changed my life completely. I now work full-time in this space and a lot of it is thanks to the team at Immutable for supporting us as third-party developers from the beginning through referrals and allowing us to build a competitive marketplace. Steven and I are very grateful to Gods Unchained and the team at Immutable.
