The expansion Roots of Ruin left you wanting more? There is no doubt that it introduced profound changes in the balance of power in Eucos. The new expansion of Gods Unchained, The Waking Plague, delves into these transformations and brings new transformation elements, reinforcing the role of a fearsome tribe: the Everborn.
Warm up your engines, because at 12 am UTC on June 16, 2026 The Plague Awakens will see the light and 46 new cards will become part of the game (and our collections).
I am JFA, promoter of GU Masters, and I invite you to join me in this analysis, as I am convinced that it will provide you with relevant information for Make informed decisions .
The background: the Everborn continue to consume Eucos
Roots of Ruin introduced an existential threat to Eucos: the Everborn. The Waking Plague brings us a new chapter of this intriguing story and in which each domain tries to come out as best as possible (starting with survival).
The arrival of the Everborn goes beyond a typical conflict between opposing forces. It is a unstoppable infection that corrupts life, nature, and the cycle of death . Faced with this plague that devastates everything in its path and feeds on resistance, the ancient factions are forced to forge desperate alliances while others conspire from the shadows to survive or take advantage of the chaos.
Commercialization format of The Waking Plague
The expansion will be distributed in Three types of envelopes , each with 6 cards and a predefined stock limit:
| Envelope Type | Price (USD) | Maximum Supply | Variant Availability |
| Regular | 1,99 | 20.000 | The formless Leech; Undercover Insurgent |
| Premium | 19,99 | 1.250 | Aria, Unwitting Hero |
| Shiny | 199,99 | 400 | Pallas, Wise Beyond Years; The Maddening One; One Who Remembers |
Compared to Roots of Ruin, there are 250 fewer Premium packs (1,500 were released in that expansion). You will find the Distribution percentages in this spreadsheet .
How to get The Waking Plague cards and until when can they be modified?
The Waking Plague cards will not be distributed through the premium game format Sealed (Sealed) or the rewards of Weekend Ranked . What does this mean? Basically, that it will only be possible Grab cards from this expansion by purchasing packs for a period of 28 days (or while supplies last), the specific Battle Pass, and of course, the secondary market.
As has been customary, a 4-week balance period after sales close, extendable for another 4 weeks if necessary. Will there be a patch or not?
How to get discounts: Divine Tithings
Once again it is possible to enjoy up to a 35% discount on booster purchases thanks to the possibility of destroying cards, including those from the Core set .
If you need to refresh your memory about how this system works, you can do so at this spreadsheet .
The return of the Squeaklings (and Elite rewards)
As you know, the Squeaklings are 6 promotional cards that, due to their rarity, introduce an additional factor of collectibility.
To take into account:
- They are only available in the envelopes Premium and Shiny , the latter having a higher probability of containing them.
- The Largest buyer (only purchases made by wallet will be taken into account) you will receive a Diamond quality copy of each of the 6 Squeaklings.
On the other hand, for every $1,000 spent, two Diamond copies of the promotional card will be received Pompous A$$ .
Mythic Variants
There is a total of 9 Mythic Variants , which can be obtained in different ways:
- The Formless Leech: exclusive to Regular packs.
- Undercover Insurgent: exclusive to Regular packs.
- Pallas, Wise Beyond Years: Exclusive Shiny Envelopes.
- Aria, Unwitting Hero: exclusive to Premium envelopes.
- The Maddening One: Exclusive Shiny Envelopes.
- One Who Remembers: Exclusive Shiny Envelopes.
- The Entangling Horde: Can only be obtained as a reward in 7-win rounds in the format Sealed .
- The Great Finality: linked exclusively to the Battle Pass.
- The Garrison on the Edge: reserved for special events.
The Battle Pass and Exclusivities
As announced by the Gods Unchained team , the Battle Pass will once again have special prominence, especially for variant collectors. Why? For a weighty reason: the card The Great Finality can only be found in one of the Whale Battle Packs of the Battle Pass.
The Battle Pass of the Season 15 will be available on June 16 and will have two modalities:
- Collector , which includes 10 Battle Packs .
- Whale , with 20 Battle Packs .
Each Battle Pack Includes three community cards of The Waking Plague (which can be Shiny ).
On another note, it should be noted that there is a card subject to pre-order by the Gods Unchained team : its members reserve the right to use the Mythic Variant of The Garrison on the Edge for future Battle Passes or events, without any obligation to put it up for public sale.
Impact on the meta
Below, I share with you My first impressions after an initial analysis of this expansion.
In general terms, what to expect?
- This expansion revolves around the Everborne tribe again, which continues to gravitate around the relic The Broken Seal .
- As you know, most Everborne creatures are Neutral, meaning that it is possible to play variations of this archetype with all the domains . This expansion introduces a substantial amount of exclusive Everborn for some domains, which means there will be greater potential for differentiation of styles by domain and variety in deck building.
- The Main risk remains the same: maintain an adequate balance so that the Everborn are playable without overwhelming the rest of the archetypes.
- Everborne decks will continue to tend towards Midrange .
- This expansion introduces important resources for the Everborn, such as Void hate .
- Lastly, and as an accessory once more, this expansion reinforces some archetypes which, to date, have not been competitive (Favor Light, Discard Deception, Fellowship Nature). And there are also some Everborne cards that will have a place in various decks.
Which domains can be most favored?
As, due to the restrictions imposed by The Broken Seal on the Everborne archetypes, the creatures will belong to this tribe and it will not make sense to carry other relics, – twilight– key questions :
- Which domains have a panoply of Spells more powerful?
- What spells do they generate? Synergies more powerful with the dynamics of the Everborne (destruction of creatures, interaction with the Void, etc.).
- Which domains have the most Resources to Bind Everborne Decks ? Mechanics such as theft, Void hate or transformation can wreak havoc?
- Which domains have the most reinforcements in the form of Exclusive Everborne creatures (non-neutral)?
To recap...
From my perspective, this expansion is a continuation of Roots of Ruin which comes to reinforce the Everborn tribe, while at the same time introducing pieces for specific archetypes.
Similarly, The Waking Plague is a medium-low size expansion, with controlled supply and multiple high rarity cards that should help foster Sales , from both packs and the Season 15 Battle Pass.
