Does the body ask you for strong emotions? Perfect, because a new expansion is approaching at cruising speed. If you're here, it's because, like me, you want to unravel every detail of what's coming our way. At 12 am UTC next February 17, 2026 Gods Unchained will take a new step forward thanks to the release of Roots of Ruin.
This is not a huge expansion, as Roots of Ruin is made up of 44 new cards that are accompanied by Multiple new features .
I'm JFA, promoter of GU Masters, and I invite you to join me in this analysis (and I recommend you go all the way , as you will find homegrown reflections that I think will be of interest to you).
The background: the awakening of the Everborns
The universe of Eucos faces an atypical threat. It is not a war between factions, but the awakening of the Everborn , a primordial mindless organism that is prior to the various divinities that govern the destiny of Eucus.
- The Everborns claim and rewrite the world from its roots .
- The narrative situates the Gods in a position of vulnerability For a compelling reason: its laws are useless in the face of an enemy that has no conscience and does not offer the possibility of negotiation.
- This organic force is mutating forests and cities, substituting everything it touches .
Roots of Ruin Marketing Format
The expansion will be distributed in Three types of envelopes , each with 6 cards and a predefined stock limit:
| Envelope Type | Price (USD) | Maximum Supply | Variant Availability |
| Booster (Regular) | 1,99 | 20.000 | Heliora, Selena & Dagan |
| Premium | 19,99 | 1.500 | The Academy |
| Shiny | 199,99 | 400 | Mythic; Argus; Orpheus; Volkaaz |
You will find the Distribution percentages in this spreadsheet .
How to get the Roots of Ruin cards and until when can they be modified?
It's vital that you keep this in mind: Roots of Ruin cards will not be distributed through the premium game format Sealed (Sealed) or the rewards of Weekend Ranked . Consequently, it will only be possible Grab cards from this expansion by purchasing packs for a period of 28 days (or while supplies last), the specific Battle Pass, and of course, the secondary market.
As for the balance of the game, a 4-week balance period After the closing of sales, extendable for another 4 weeks if necessary.
Divine Tithings: a new utility for the Core Set
One of the new features that we find is the update of the Divine Tithings system, which will allow you to enjoy up to 35% discount on your purchases of packs from the expansion, thanks to the possibility of destroying cards from the Core set . In that sense, it is an added utility for this expansion, so it is a welcome measure.
If you want to check all the details about the Operation of this mechanic, you can do it in this spreadsheet .
Elite Squeaklings and Rewards
The Squeaklings There are 6 promotional cards that add a layer of exclusivity to this expansion. Key points to consider:
- They are only available in the envelopes Premium and Shiny , the latter having a higher probability of containing them.
- The Largest buyer (only purchases made by wallet will be taken into account) you will receive a Diamond quality copy of each of the 6 Squeaklings.
On the other hand, for every $1,000 spent, two Diamond copies of the promotional card will be received Emergence .
Mythic Variants
There is a total of 10 Mythic Variants , which can be obtained in different ways:
- Heliora: exclusive to regular packs (Booster).
- Selena & Dagan: exclusive to regular packs (Booster).
- Argus, Realm Protector: Exclusive Shiny Envelopes.
- Volkaaz: Exclusive Shiny Envelopes.
- Orfeo, Always Watching: Exclusive Shiny Envelopes.
- The Academy, Rebuilt: exclusive to Premium envelopes.
- The All-Consuming: Can only be obtained as a reward in 7-win rounds in the format Sealed .
- The Dissolving Horror: linked exclusively to the Battle Pass.
- The Rending Queen: reserved for special events.
- The Shielding Beast: reserved for special events.
The Mythical Card: "The Great Unnamed One"
Well, yes. Roots of Ruin arrives with an authentic Mythical Charter under the arm. And this is always outstanding news.
What you should know:
- Unlike Mythic Variants, which are a variant with alternate art, a true Mythic card, like this one, is a Unique copy .
- The mythical card of this expansion is The Great Unnamed One .
- It will only be possible to find it in the Shiny Envelopes .
The Battle Pass and Exclusivities
As announced by the Gods Unchained team , the Battle Pass plays a strategic role in this expansion, especially for variant collectors, as the card The Dissolving Horror can only be found in one of the Whale Battle Packs of the Battle Pass.
The Battle Pass of the Season 11 It will be available on February 17 and will have two modalities:
- Collector , which includes 10 Battle Packs .
- Whale , with 20 Battle Packs .
Each Battle Pack Includes three community cards of Roots of Ruin (which can be Shiny ).
On another note, it should be noted that there are letters subject to pre-order by the Gods Unchained team : its members reserve the right to use variants such as The Rending Queen and The Shielding Beast for future Battle Passes or events, with no obligation to make them available for public sale.
Impact on the meta
Below, I share with you My first impressions after an initial analysis of this expansion.
In general terms, what to expect?
- This expansion revolves around a new tribe, the Everborne, and the archetypes they make possible around the relic The Broken Seal , which is the cornerstone of this expansion and conditions the construction of decks.
- Most Everborne creatures are Neutral, which means that It will be possible to play variations of this archetype with all domains . It is an unprecedented proposal in this game and generates a space for experimentation that does not necessarily translate into an abuse of power-creep .
- The Main risk From this approach, from my point of view, is that, if this archetype is too powerful, it will become the preponderant one in all domains. However, while I believe that the impact of this expansion will be comparable to that of Guardians of Elderym, I think that the level of power will not be oppressive.
- Although the use of some spells or others will "modulate" this, I would say that Everborne decks will tend to Midrange .
- This expansion bets on some Mechanical which have had little prominence so far, including disruption in the deck and in the hand. It will be interesting, but in the case of Deception, which is the domain that monopolizes most of the disruptive resources available, it can be suffocating... or maybe not, as I hope.
- On the other hand, and in an ancillary way, this expansion comes to reinforce some archetypes which, to date, have not been competitive (Favor Light, Discard Deception, Fellowship Nature). And there are also some Everborne cards that will have a place in various decks.
Which domains can be most favored?
Since, due to the restrictions imposed by The Broken Seal on the Everborne archetypes, the creatures will belong to this tribe and it will not make sense to carry other relics, here are several Essential Questions to answer:
- Which domains have a panoply of Spells more powerful?
- What spells do they generate? Synergies more powerful with the dynamics of the Everborne (destruction of creatures, interaction with the Void, etc.).
- Which domains have the most Resources to Bind Everborne Decks ? Mechanics such as theft, Void hate or transformation can wreak havoc?
- Which domains have the most reinforcements in the form of Exclusive Everborne creatures (non-neutral)?
If you want to have access to a card analysis by card of this expansion, you'll find it in this JFA live recording that aired on February 10, 2026:
To recap...
From my perspective, this expansion is a different approach to the development of the Pool of cards available in Gods Unchained and I wonder if it will receive reinforcements in the future.
Roots of Ruin is presented as a medium-low expansion, with a fairly controlled supply and multiple cards of high rarity that should contribute to promoting the Sales , both from packs and from Battle Pass Season 11. In that sense, the integration of Core cards into Divine Tithings discounts seems like a reasonable move to make them more useful (but at the same time, it reduces the impact of this mechanic to reduce the supply of cards from other expansions).
What do you think about powerful variants like The Dissolving Horror being reserved for Whale Battle Packs? I'm interested to know if you think this segments the community too much, or if it gives fair value to those who support the game the most.
