Essential Mortal Judgement Cards

05/08/2023 by JFA

Gods Unchained - Mortal Judgement

From December 23, 2023, the 197 cards of the expansion Mortal Judgement they are immutable and, therefore, you can acquire them with the certainty that they will not undergo changes. If you're wondering which ones might prove most valuable to your collection, I'm happy to share my personal selection with you. I'm JFA from GU Masters, and I'm convinced that if all goes as expected, these cards have the potential to appreciate in the future.

In this selection of cards You will find a "Top Three" for each god , as well as some additional suggestions.

What criteria does it make sense to apply to determine which cards are better?

I'm glad you ask yourself this question, it's always pertinent. There are multiple criteria to take into account when making a selection like this, but here are some highlights:

  • How is it Powerful ? Naturally, this is the first parameter to consider.
  • ¿Is versatile ? That is, can you incorporate it into decks of different archetypes?
  • To what extent is it unique ? Can it be replaced by another card, are there alternatives?
  • ¿Is efficient ? To determine this, the most common thing is to take into consideration the quotient between its cost in manna and its statistical value.
  • What is the potential for them to emerge Synergies with cards from other expansions?
  • Etc.

Finally, it is necessary to remember that in any selection of this type there will always be a certain personal bias (in this case, mine, of course). If you ask 100 players you will get 100 different listings... It's normal. In any case, I am convinced that the cards you will find below will be a success to upgrade your decks.

Top three Mortal Judgement cards for each god

I hope you find this list as useful as I would like. If so, remember that you can support GU Masters by purchasing your cards through the links included in this article (During the 24 hours following your click, a small commission is generated for the purchases made, which, obviously, has no cost for you). Now, let's go there.

Top three Neutral cards in Mortal Judgement

Neutral cards are always especially attractive because they act as "jokers": can be incorporated into any deck , since they are not ascribed to any particular god.

Serris .- This Legendary creature belongs to the select club of cards with the ability to turn a game around. With 5/5 stats, his Battlecry (Roar) will set your god's health to ten points. What is the price to pay in manna to achieve this, you may be wondering. If you have 10 or more hit points, the cost will be six... and will be reduced by one for each hit point below 10. Yes, you are adding well, when your god has 4 or less life points you will play Serris at zero cost and you will heal up to 10. As if this were not enough, in archetypes where you need your god to be under a certain health threshold to activate certain combos or effects, it will also be useful for you.

Encumbered Looter - Gods Unchained is a game in which some domains have a very limited access, an essential mechanic such as drawing cards. Encumbered Looter is a 2/1 hidden for one turn, with afterlife effect "draw a card from your deck". Cheap and very useful for an infinite number of archetypes.

Gleamweaver Here is a letter Tech useful in any meta where sabotaging interaction with the Void is necessary. If your deck needs these types of resources, this creature offers you an effective solution at a low cost (stats 2/2 for one mana).

Additional cards to watch closely: Sneaky Bruiser, Lethal Prowler, Kaya or Moramag.

Top three Death cards in Mortal Judgement

Curse of Greed .- This spell stands out for its effectiveness, as it destroys any creature with a cost of 2 or 3 for two mana. In addition, it has the versatility to generate a Pharaoh's Heirloom in exchange for consuming 2 additional mana gems, thanks to the Empower mechanic. Simply put, this is an auto-inclusion card in any Death deck.

Bifurcating Curse .- As long as you use it wisely, this spell will save your skin on more than one occasion. After all, for six mana you can choose to destroy all creatures on the odd-cost or odd-cost board. Tempting, right?

Over the Line Here is a decisive card if there ever was one. Spending six mana gems using this high-voltage spell will cause all allied creatures on the board to make an additional attack on your opponent's god. One Finisher in every way, come on... Combo meat.

Other cards of interest in this expansion are all the ones that make up the "Heirloom pack", which gives its name to the homonymous archetype.

Top three Deception cards in Mortal Judgement

Blade Borrower Control of the board can give you infinite victories in Gods Unchained, and Blade Borrower is an especially useful creature for achieving this goal. Why? Because when you play this card you will have a 2/1 creature that can select a creature of your opponent to subtract two points of damage. And for an additional mana you can play his Echo, with the same effect. In the early stages of the game, this will allow you to nullify one or more of your opponent's creatures, so that you can annihilate them without suffering attrition or posing other threats. Devastating against Aggro.

Bound by her Will .- If you add this spell to the manipulation of stats of creatures such as Blade Borrower, Beguiling Blade or Lethargy Mage, which allows you to take control of a creature of your opponent with one or less damage, well... You will turn one of your opponent's assets into an asset of your own. It's no small thing, no.

Pietro, Merry Bandit Do you play Aggro Deception? Here's a perfect card for your Hidden Rush deck. Pietro's stats aren't shocking (1/1), but the fun is in his Roar effect: he summons two random one-cost creatures belonging to War, then applies Hidden to all allied creatures. Powerful effect for four mana, as it should be for a Legendary card.

More cards that can improve your decks in this domain: Lethargy Mage, Beguiling Blade, Arms Dealer, and Alika.

Top three Light cards in Mortal Judgement

Considering the impact of this expansion on this domain, I'm going to make an exception by recommending 3 cards for Aggro and 3 for Control.

Cards for Aggro Light

Vesper of Concession Here is a leathery creature (1/1 and Protected) that, in exchange for one mana, at the end of each turn will reduce the duration of the relic that your opponent has equipped by one. Oh, and it's an Aether, too.

Humble Benefactor - Olympian with a cost of 1 and stats 1/1, which grants +1 health to an allied creature. But that's not all, as it features Echo. Ideal for achieving a board with multiple creatures in the blink of an eye, activating Ally, increasing the duration of Lysander's Spear, etc.

Thaeric Extortionist Light's Levy is a magnificent card, but Thaeric Extortionist has two advantages. First of all, its versatility... it is a 1/1 creature and you can play it by consuming one mana, but also activating its Empower effect for two additional mana. In this case, you'll transform an allied creature with damage 2 or less into a Thaeric Militant 1/1. Considering how good Aggro Light is with boards with multiple creatures to power, two creatures are almost always better than one. You might be thinking "but this card looks fantastic for Control too" and yes, it is (but the top 3 for Control is already complete).

Cards that will also interest you if you play Aggro Light: Thestor, Grieving General; Chaining of the Gods; Warrant Issuer.

Cards for Control Light

Eucos in Eclipse - Two-cost spell with effect "applies Souless and -1/-1 to each creature). Considering that there are hardly any area damage spells for this domain, Eucos in Eclipse serves a double function: on the one hand, it is useful for dealing with boards of many small creatures; on the other hand, when applying Souless to creatures he can decide matches against archetypes that depend on interactions with the Void

Inescapable Duty .- Three-cost spell with effect "return a creature from your Void to your hand and grant it +2/+2 and Souless". But this is not all. If you activate its Empower effect, you can do the same with an additional creature. Now think about the most powerful creatures you can think of and having the option to "resurrect" them and play them again... Simply formidable.

Enlightment .- In exchange for consuming four mana, this spell makes you discard 2 cards from your hand and, in exchange, draw 2 cards from your deck. You choose the 2 cards that you "sacrifice" and the 2 cards that go into your hand. Once this is done, your deck is shuffled again. As you know, "tutors" (cards that allow you to "call" other cards) are very powerful and Enlightment is a clear example.

Top three Magic cards in Mortal Judgement

Unbound Flames - A five-mana-cost spell that deals 4 damage to any target. However, the key is in his Empower: for two more mana, 4 damage to all creatures on the board. If your deck needs area damage, Unbound Flames is a safe bet.

Frenetic Bibliomaniac - Stealing cards from your deck is always valuable and this creature from the Mystics tribe comes to your aid. With 1/1 stats and 3 cost, it will make you draw a card with its Roar effect. And it also has Echo, so for one more mana you'll play another 1/1 creature and draw another card.

Crystaltech Scholar .- If we talk about Magic, Ramp (accelerated mana unlock) is one of the specialties of the house. And this creature (Mystic), with a cost of 4 and 1/1 stats, has as a battle cry to unlock a mana gem. In addition, in exchange for two extra mana (Empower) it will allow you to benefit from the Foresee effect (one card). And, in addition, with Echo. And since it's not a Legendary, you can carry two copies in the deck... I don't think I need to add anything else.

Don't forget to check out these cards as well: Academy Apprentice, Unannounced Arrival, Spellslinging Schoolteacher

Top three Nature cards in Mortal Judgement

Dagan, the Dawn Wolf - Legendary Wild creature with 1/3 stats and cost three. Regen 2. So far nothing impressive, right? The important thing is, in fact, its effect: "when a creature is healed, it receives +1/+1". Now start calculating synergies with all of Nature's regeneration creatures... That's what makes a curveball game decide the game (if your opponent doesn't have an answer). Be careful, its effect is also activated by your opponent's creatures.

Dalia, Night Gardener Another Legendary creature (in this case, Amazon). Four mana cost for 3/5 stats. More synergies with the regeneration of this domain: when an allied creature heals, Dahlia will summon an Injured Sprout. And with Echo, which is always an important plus.

Druid of the Cycle .- Undervalued card that you should not overlook. Amazon with four cost and 3/4 stats with a Battlecry effect that will become increasingly important as interactions with the Void become more important with the release of new expansions: Obliterate a creature in any Void and add an Injured Sprout to your hand. And Echo. This means you can get rid of an annoying card and save the Echo for later. It also means that this card allows you to play four creatures on the board on turn 7, for example. In short, it is a letter Tech which in some games will not shine, but in others it will be decisive.

These cards can also be useful for strengthening your Nature decks: Barksworn Hunter, Warrior of Paradise, Forrestheart Dryad, Penumbra Howler.

Top three War cards in Mortal Judgement

White Fur Guard "It's true, this four-cost Olympian doesn't do anything extraordinary. However, with its 5/4 stats and its Empower effect, it allows you to provide it with Protected in exchange for spending an extra mana gem. As you can see, it is a rocky creature that fits into practically any archetype.

Wolf-Cult Vanguard - Olympian with two costs, 3/1 stats and Blitz. What makes this creature an ideal choice for "controlling" decks is that activating its Empower (cost two) acquires Twin Strike and 2 additional health points. This means that, when played in a curve, there will be many occasions when it will allow you to "neutralize" two enemy creatures. That wins games.

Savage Strike A one-cost spell perfect for Control or archetypes based on self-inflicted damage. It deals 1 damage to all creatures on the board, but if you activate Empower by consuming two additional mana crystals, it will then deal another two damage to the enemy creature of your choice. It will get you out of more than one predicament, believe me.

More wood: Cunning Challenger, Skollkin Valkyrie, Commander Pyros, Ironborne Disruptor.
