Mortal Judgement will go on sale on April 19, 2022 (well, for Spaniards like me during the early hours of Wednesday 20th... specifically at 03:00 h). Are you weighing options? Buy packs or wait to buy loose cards as other players put them up for sale? Buy more envelopes of one type or another? How many packs to buy to get the full expansion? A thousand and one questions for which it is convenient to have an answer.
I'm JFA, promoter of GU Masters, and I'm going to share with you my Conclusions about that.
Strategies to Consider When Acquiring Mortal Judgement Cards
Naturally, there are Four strategies possible to assess:
1.- Bet on the f2p route, that is, Not investing a penny . In this case, it would only be possible to reinvest the resources obtained as a reward by playing (both $GODS and Core set and expansion packs). It is the slowest and most demanding option, without a doubt.
2.- Opt for Buy Single Cards on the Secondary Market , i.e. buying cards from other players on the corresponding markets (Immutable X, Trove Token, etc.). In the long run, it is usually the best option to buy at the tightest possible prices (as more cards become available, prices drop). However, it does imply having "top meta" decks in the short term, since these new decks will include cards from the new expansion.
3.- Combine the purchase of individual cards with the purchase of some packs . This is where chance comes into play, since in each envelope there are options to get cards of higher quality (cards shiny , come on) and, of course, one of the unique cards in the expansion (either a Promo card or the Mythic card).
4.- Acquire a significant number of packs and sell duplicate cards on the secondary market (or even the cards with the highest demand, thinking of buying them again later, when their price is lower). The main disadvantage of this option is that more risk is assumed... Ultimately, buying envelopes always has something of a "lottery" about it.
Well, the possibilities are clear. The point is... Which strategy interests you the most To you ?
What to do? There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question
Naturally, I don't know your personal circumstances. Therefore, it is impossible for them to offer you any type of financial advice. What logic tells me is that Gods Unchained is a game and, although it has an economic dimension that we cannot overlook, from an investment perspective it is a highly speculative option. What does this mean? What you should only allocate money to Gods Unchained that you are willing to lose , because there is a possibility of this happening. This is the reality.
Taking as a starting point that you can afford to allocate part of your money to Gods Unchained, as a hobby, It all depends on your budget and your goals . If you only want to play sporadically, without aspiring more than to have fun for a while (which is no small thing), you will not need a complete collection. On the other hand, if you're a collector or aspire to compete at a high level, the idea of getting all the cards in the expansion will win out, right?
When to buy Mortal Judgement packs?
Let's talk now about the timing .
Are you going to Buy single cards? Then the ideal is that you wait 3 to 4 months to do so, since the prices will go down as the number of cards available increases. As long as the player base does not grow considerably, demand will remain stable. And as the offer will grow, well... you know what's going to happen. The Law of Supply and Demand never fails.
Obviously, the disadvantage of this strategy is that during this period it will be more difficult for you to achieve good results (i.e. access to better rewards in competitions such as Weekend Raned).
By the way, to buy single cards it is worth having ETH, as you will find better prices than with $GODS (it is clear that ETH is preferable for the gaming community).
Are you going to buy envelopes? So the best time to do this is in the expansion's release of the game, for several reasons:
- You'll be able to start enjoying your cards right away, and you'll be able to build more powerful decks. This should translate into better results, i.e. better rewards (which can help to recoup some of the investment).
- You will benefit from the discount Early bird .
- You will be able to put the cards you consider up for sale at higher prices, taking advantage of the peak in demand at launch. Especially if they are cards of high demand or high quality ( Shinies ).
What types of envelopes are I most interested in?
I am not going to go into much detail about this, but the conclusion of different authoritative voices is that The most cost-effective envelopes are the Rare . Depending on your interest in getting Legendaries, some packs of this type may also be a reasonable option. And maybe some Epic, but they will be the least profitable (remember that in this expansion each envelope Epic includes two cards of this quality). As long as there are no rewards for playing with cards shiny , don't buy envelopes shiny . It's not worth it.
For more details on the Odds that cards of greater or lesser rarity and quality come out in an envelope, I leave you right here the link to the official Guide published by the Immutable team with all the details: "Mortal Judgement Buyers Guide" .
And I also leave you a video prepared by CopperPitch on the subject at hand:
How much could it cost to get hold of the full expansion?
Considering that you're going to need one copy per Legendary card and two of all the others, I'll leave you right here a table. This is a mere guideline, since right now it is difficult to predict prices on the secondary market (it is a Estimation with the acquisition of single cards in mind , one by one, to other players).

As you can see, the table applies the discount Early bird maximum, 20%. This discount will be reduced as the total sales volume increases, until it expires when it reaches 10 million USD. I was adamant that a discount would also be applied for using $GODS to buy envelopes, but the reality is that this is not yet the case. Which brings me to the question... friends of GU, what are you waiting for to apply this discount? Even if it was a modest 5%, it would serve to bolster the token's utility.
Important.- Edited on April 20, 2022
Five hours after the release of Mortal Judgment, prices on the secondary market are already very attractive . It seems that there are many players who have chosen to buy packs and put cards up for sale immediately, so the supply is outpacing the demand. I include below an updated table and the conclusion can only be one: at this time it is more efficient to buy the cards individually than to buy envelopes (unless you trust that Goddess Luck smiles at you and there are cards in your envelopes shiny or, even, the Mythic of this expansion).

Right here, video summary of this point:
