Collective Power: The Potential of Teams in Gods Unchained

08/09/2025 by JFA

Gods Unchained - Card art - Reinforcements

Today I want to talk to you about something that has the potential to transform the experience of Gods Unchained players: the role of teams in this game. I'm a JFA, the creator of GU Masters, and I know there's no official guild or clan system right now, but that doesn't mean we're going to overlook its potential importance. In fact, Bryn Welch, an authoritative voice on the Gods Unchained team, has confirmed that she'd like to push this feature forward and has some ideas about how to approach this challenge in the future.

In this article We're going to take a deeper look into what guilds are, how they could drive growth for this game, and what steps the Gods Unchained team could take. to make this vision a reality. If you're someone who enjoys playing together and believes that unity is strength, I assure you this analysis will interest you.

What is a team and why are they so important in the world? gaming ?

Are you an avid gamer? Then you know very well that in the world of video games, the terms “team,” “clan,” “guild,” or “tribe” are very common. It's not just a group of people who play together, but a community organized with a purpose While most guilds are born with a competitive focus, oriented towards tournaments and the competitive elite of the game, there are many others that focus on more social aspects, such as helping new players, creating content, collecting or simply the fandom based on the Lore of the game.

The existence of these groups is a social necessity that manifests itself naturally in games. They are the glue that holds the community together, the perfect excuse to forge lasting friendships, and, of course, the best way to share experiences and strategies. Ultimately, We are social animals and we love being part of something bigger than ourselves. .

The current situation in Gods Unchained: an opportunity on the horizon

As I told you at the beginning, Gods Unchained It doesn't yet have official team support. There's no "join guild" button, no clan leaderboards, and nothing of the sort. However, this hasn't stopped the community from trying to organize itself naturally.

A example A perfect example of this (and great news) is the recent initiative of Team Hat what has announced that they are organizing a league for teams . In principle, a competition that, in a first stage, will unite five players per side in a league system and knockout . Below these lines you will find a teaser trailer on YouTube, further proof that there is interest in teams having a growing importance in the Gods Unchained universe.

The truth is that this is not something new. If you've been playing for a while, you already know that Throughout the history of Gods Unchained we have seen the birth and evolution of teams that have been pillars of our community. . Some examples, in alphabetical order, are Bulgarian Mafia, Cujo, Fëanor, Fun First, GOAT, Impact, Infinite Mana, Octopus, Perion, Play To Win, Sparta, Team Stream Team, Toxic, XBorg or Zeal, among many others (including some aimed at the Spanish-speaking community, such as Force of Will or Waifu Fan Association). These groups have organized tournaments, helped content creators grow and, ultimately, have kept the competitive and social flame of the game alive.

Bryn Welch's confirmation that he would like to push this feature is a clear indication that the developers are aware of this need and this is where things get interesting, as the lack of an official system gives us the opportunity to let our imaginations run wild: How do we want this system to be?

The role of teams in Gods Unchained: what could they contribute?

The implementation of teams in Gods Unchained would not be a mere extra, but could become a transformation lever It would benefit Immutable, the players, and the game ecosystem overall.

Advantages for Immutable

From a development point of view, the teams could :

  • Increase player retention: A player who's part of a team has more reasons to return to the game. Social ties are the best glue for a community.
  • Boosting the gaming economy: Guilds could generate a higher demand for cards, especially if there are internal tournaments or team-only events.
  • Generate publicity and branding : a competitive ecosystem of teams would attract Streamers and content creators, which in turn would give more visibility to the game.
  • Promote the organization of tournaments: The community itself, through its teams, could organize more events, reducing the workload on developers.

Advantages for players

But, what could it bring to you , as a player, being part of a team? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Access to game assets: Imagine a card-lending system between members of the same team. This opens up the possibility of testing decks, which is essential for understanding the meta, without having to buy or rent cards. Or imagine the possibility of trading, buying, and selling cards or cosmetic items between members of a trusted group.
  2. Groups of playtest : A team is the perfect laboratory for testing deck ideas, refining strategies, or finding archetype weaknesses in a safe and trusted environment.
  3. Analysis of games and coaching : Would you like a partner to analyze your gameplay To detect basic errors or areas for improvement? Teams are ideal for this. A second opinion on your decisions can make all the difference.
  4. Tournament preparation: From researching opponents to reviewing your deck to ensure it's optimized, a team would give you a competitive advantage worth considering.
  5. Opportunities for socialization : virtual or in-person meetings between its members, interaction with other teams in different contexts, etc.
  6. Recognition: "Ego fuel" is also important, don't you think? Teams could highlight their members with their own profiles on their websites, contribute to giving visibility to their achievements or the content they generate, etc.
  7. Source of income: If a team generates revenue, it's able to compensate its members, professionalizing the game. This income can come from sponsorships, the sale of team promotional material, the distribution of tournament prizes, etc.

How can the Gods Unchained team promote team building?

We've reached a key point in our analysis. It's clear that the community wants teams, but How could an official system be implemented? It's not just a technical issue, but a question of game design and its own economy.

Here are some odds (which also include references to other games, at this point there is no need to reinvent the wheel).

  • Game client integration: The most basic and crucial measure would be to integrate a guild system directly into the client. This could be a “Guild Hub” or a dedicated tab where players can create, search for, and join teams. This could include internal chat, a message board, and perhaps even a dedicated leaderboard.
  • Exclusive rewards and benefits: We players need incentives to be part of a team. Gods Unchained could offer exclusive rewards, or milestones in the future progression system, that can only be achieved through teamwork. For example:
  • Weekly or monthly missions for guilds.
  • Cosmetic elements that can only be achieved by playing as a team.
  • Rewards of loot shared for group achievements.
  • Automated tournament systems: The Team Hat league is an example of what can be done manually, but an in-game tournament system would be a huge step forward. This would allow guilds to easily organize their own competitions, which would increase activity and competitiveness… once the Gods Unchained team resolves some outstanding issues regarding player confidentiality to maintain a level playing field in competitive environments.

An additional dose of inspiration ? Let's go there:

  • Magic: The Gathering (TCG): Magic has brilliantly propelled teams through his Magic Pro League (MPL) and of the Pro Tours While they aren't guilds within the game, they've demonstrated how teams can be the foundation of a vibrant competitive scene, attracting top players and creating rivalries that the community passionately follows.
  • Axie Infinity : His “scholarship” model demonstrated how guilds can be an engine of growth, something that could be translated into a card lending system in Gods Unchained However, I think it's healthier for teams to focus on mentoring and support systems to improve the level of play (and, consequently, the enjoyment of playing Gods Unchained).
  • Hearthstone : Although they do not have an official guild system, their competitive scene is organized around teams of e-Sports and events such as its World Championship or its Masters Tour There is no doubt that a guild system could be a first step in attracting organizations of e-Sports who seek to sponsor the best players.
  • World of Warcraft: This game is one of the "kings" of guilds. Its success lies in how the guild integrates into the player's progression, with exclusive rewards, cooperative events, and a strong sense of belonging.

A team-up future for Gods Unchained?

In light of what has been explained throughout the article, I think it is clear that promoting the creation and development of teams in Gods Unchained is much more than a simple functionality… it is a chance to strengthen the community, increase player retention, and ultimately enrich the gaming experience.

Have you ever been tempted to form or join a team? What were your motivations? What other benefits do you think teams could bring? Perhaps it would be worth dedicating an article to analyzing the challenges of creating and managing a team... Do you find this a topic of interest?
